Fresh Cut Lawns

About Fresh Cut Lawns

There is a scent that belongs to Webb on a June evening — just-mown grass still warm from the day, lifting off a yard as the shadows lengthen and the lightning bugs begin to blink along the tree line. Fresh Cut Lawns is named for exactly that moment and builds toward it: a sharp blade so the tips come clean instead of torn, trimming snug along the foundation and the walk, the sidewalk blown bare so the only thing left behind is that green perfume. Early-summer storms can put a startling amount of growth on a lawn here in a few days, and keeping pace is simply part of the work. When the sprinklers start ticking down the block and the lawn chairs come out, a newly cut yard is the backdrop for the whole evening.
