Silverstreak Lawn

About Silverstreak Lawn

Past the edge of Walnut Grove the county roads trade their names for numbers, and Farm Road 34 runs between pasture and hay ground under a sky with nothing in the way. Silverstreak Lawn works this northern stretch of Greene County, where a yard can roll right down to the wire and the cattle on the far side watch the mower make its turns. Late May is the long push out here — grass thick from spring rain, the first cuttings of hay drying in windrows, evenings holding their gold well past eight. The job is a lawn mowed level across open country ground, trimmed close around outbuildings and posts, the drive blown clean. Where the nearest neighbor might be a field away, a tended yard is the first thing anyone coming up the road sees.
