St. Louis was built on limestone, and it shows in the old retaining walls and stone curbs that line so many of its hill streets, snow finding its way into every seam and mortar joint after a storm. VQ Land & Stone, LLC clears the drives and walks along those stone-edged blocks, working carefully around walls and steps that have held their ground since long before anyone thought to plow a street. Ice tends to creep out from the base of a stone wall faster than from open pavement, so those spots get extra attention on every pass. There's a texture to this work that flatter, newer neighborhoods don't offer — old stone under new snow, both waiting to be cleared with the same care. Finishing a block and seeing the stone edges stand out clean and dark against the white feels like uncovering something rather than just clearing it.
