Spring Green

About Spring Green

Out toward the Creve Coeur bottoms the June evenings run absurdly long, sun holding above the lake until nearly nine while the lawns give back the water they took at dawn. Spring Green keeps west St. Louis County turf on its schedule through that stretch — cutting at a height that suits the heat, trimming tight around fence posts and mailboxes, feeding the grass and knocking back the weeds that move in after a wet spell. Later in the year the machines change and the work turns to aeration, seed, and clearing leaves off the big shaded yards. What you notice on a finished street is the evenness: no scalped ridges, no ragged corners, just one continuous green under the low light. Getting there is mostly patience and a sharp blade.
