About Horstmann Brothers LLC

On The Hill, snow falls over red-tile roofs and Concord grape arbors gone bare for the season, and the smell of bread from the corner bakeries somehow still cuts through the cold morning air. Horstmann Brothers LLC clears the short driveways and tight lots that pack this hilltop Italian neighborhood, working carefully around the close-set houses where there's barely room to swing a shovel, let alone a plow blade. Southwest Avenue gets salted early, before the bakery and grocery crowds start their morning rounds, so no one has to step gingerly across ice on their way in for coffee. The Hill's namesake slope means water and slush run downhill fast and refreeze faster, so a second pass by afternoon often finishes what the first one started. Nothing beats a Hill sidewalk scraped clean down to the old brick, steam still rising faintly off a fresh bag of salt.
