About Mastodon Lawn

The ground under this county keeps a long memory — chert and clay, old iron in the dirt, hills worn round by more time than a person can really picture. Mastodon Lawn works the thin layer of green sitting on top of all that, mowing, trimming, edging and cleaning up yards across St. Francois County. Late winter is when a lawn is most honest, everything brown and legible, and it's a good time to see what the coming season is going to ask for. Then the spring rains land, the fescue jumps, and it becomes weekly work straight through to autumn. The name is oversized on purpose; the work under it is plain, patient and on time.
