South of Benton the land runs flat clear to the horizon, cotton and soybean ground cut through with drainage ditches and gravel section roads, and when a Bootheel ice storm rolls across it glazes every wire and grain bin for miles. S&S Excavation, built on moving dirt across that same flat delta ground, turns its equipment to the roads and yards once the ice comes, clearing the lanes that farm families and rural properties depend on to get out. There's no hill to break a plow's rhythm here, just long straight passes down section-line roads, the kind of open sky that makes a single cleared lane visible from a half-mile off. The crew works fields-edge driveways and farmstead yards the same way they'd grade a foundation pad, level and complete. Snow moves differently over open delta ground than it does anywhere else in Missouri, drifting hard against the one obstacle it can find, and S&S Excavation goes after those drifts until the lane is open.
