About Smallwood Lawn & Services

In the Ozark hills around Short Bend, morning fog pools in the hollows and lifts slowly off ridges of oak and hickory. Yards out here are often clearings carved from the woods, a patch of grass between the tree line and the gravel road, and the forest is always leaning back in. Smallwood Lawn & Services works to hold that line, mowing, trimming along fence rows and keeping brush from creeping into the grass. Once the fog burns off on a summer morning, a freshly cut lawn in this country looks like a bright open room in the timber. That sense of space, won back one pass at a time, is the heart of the job.
