SEMO Land Co.

About SEMO Land Co.

A grain elevator stands over most every crossroads in this stretch of southeast Missouri, and the county roads around Scott run so straight between them that a plow can hold one line for miles without a turn. SEMO Land Co. works that same open ground, where the levee roads catch drifting snow that the low fields never see, banked up along the base of the levee like a second small hill. Big sky country like this loses its light fast in December, so a good part of the work happens in the last gray hour before dark, clearing field entrances and yard drives while there's still enough light to see the ditch line. The land here doesn't hide anything, a plowed road either runs true to the section line or it doesn't. By the time headlights are the only light left, the lanes back to the farmhouses are clear enough to trust in the dark.
