The Lawn Rangers

About The Lawn Rangers

Late in the day, Russellville turns gold. The light comes long across the hay ground, the trucks quit for the evening, and the yards along the county roads keep that warm color until dusk. The Lawn Rangers work the town and the places out around it — mowing, trimming around mailboxes and porch steps, edging the sidewalk line back to a hard margin, and clearing the clippings before they go. Grass in this part of Missouri grows fast in June and turns stubborn by August, and the schedule bends to match it. Nothing fancy in the job; the pleasure is a crisp border and a yard that is finished when the gate swings shut.
