In a Rocky Fork July the cicadas start up in the hickories by mid-morning and don't quit until the light goes orange — a sound you stop hearing, then hear all at once the moment the mower shuts off. CICADA Lawn & Landscape keeps yards across northern Boone County under that racket: mowing on a steady schedule, trimming the fence lines, edging the drives, and clearing the beds and borders when the season turns. The soil up here runs to clay over limestone, so the grass comes on hard in May and needs a firm hand by August. Working with that rhythm instead of against it is most of the job. There is real satisfaction in pulling out of a drive with the yard squared away and the shells still clinging to the bark.
