About Bluff Grass

Northwest of town the ground begins to tilt, the first Ozark foothills lifting out of the flat and taking the yards up with them. Bluff Grass mows those slopes, where fescue holds a bank and a mower has to be walked with respect. October is the season this country was made for — hillsides going rust and gold, the air finally cool enough for a full day of it. Cutting, trimming the steep corners and clearing leaves off the turf before they smother it: that is autumn here, done one property at a time. By dusk the yards look tended again, and Poplar Bluff settles in under an early dark.
