The last mow of the year in Pleasant Valley lands on some still November afternoon when the ground has gone cold and the grass has finally stopped asking for anything. The Minty Goat handles the whole arc leading up to it — mowing through the season, trimming, edging, weeding the beds, and the leaf work that keeps a lawn from smothering under its own maples. The name is a joke that stuck; the mowing lines are not. Out here the yards run small and sit close together, so what one lawn looks like matters to the four around it. Cut short, blown clean, edges laid in — and then the whole street gets to sit under a low winter sun looking tidy until April.
