Big Creek runs low and half-frozen through the eastern edge of Lee's Summit, curling behind the yards and fence lines long before anyone's kitchen light clicks on for the day. Big Creek Outdoors of KC plows the driveways and lots that follow that same creek bottom, cutting a straight line down to bare asphalt while the water underneath keeps its own slow current. Salt goes down in an even hand along the curves, because the low ground here holds ice longer than the streets up on the ridge. The crew works the bends of the neighborhood the way the creek itself bends, block after block, before the first cars back out for work. A driveway scraped down to the gravel doesn't look like much, but it's what decides whether somebody's morning starts on time.
