Miller's Family Garden

About Miller's Family Garden

Before the cicadas start up on a Lebanon summer morning, there is an hour when the air runs cool, dew hangs heavy on the vines, and a garden belongs to whoever rises early enough to meet it. Miller's Family Garden works in that hour, tending garden beds, setting out plants and keeping the lawn around them neat so growing things have room to stretch. The ground in these hills asks for patience — rusty red clay laced with stone that hardens like brick by July — and it answers hands that keep at it steadily through the heat. A row weeded clean, a border mown crisp beside it, a bed as lively in August as it was in May: small victories, and sweet ones. In a town ringed by farms and pasture, a flourishing garden still feels like the heart of a home.
