Clayton's Lawn Service

About Clayton's Lawn Service

Evenings in June the light hangs long over Schifferdecker Park, and the smell of cut grass drifts through the neighborhoods around it. Clayton's Lawn Service is out in that hour and the ones before it — mowing, trimming around trees and mailboxes, cutting the edge in along curbs until the line looks drawn rather than cut. Joplin lawns swing between soaked and scorched, so timing matters; a day early or late shows up in the clippings. By November the work turns to leaves and a last pass before the ground goes quiet. It is unglamorous, and it is the whole difference between a yard and a lawn.
