Out toward Burfordville, where the Whitewater River bottoms flatten out below Jackson's foothill streets, a cold snap can leave the low ground fogged and frost-heavy long after town has warmed up in the afternoon sun. Williams Landscape Design works that stretch of county road at day's end, plowing the driveways and lanes that sit closer to the river than the ones up on the ridge. It's a quieter route than the one through town, mostly farmhouses and a scattering of newer homes built along the bottomland, the light going gold and low by the time the last driveway gets cleared. Finishing that route just as the evening cold really sets its teeth into the ground leaves driveway after driveway bare behind the truck, one plain job done before dark.
