The hills above the old White River channel turn all at once in October — oak red, hickory yellow, and the lake holding the whole thing upside down. White River Landscapes mows through that season and the three before it, keeping Hollister lawns on a cut that holds up on thin Ozark ground over limestone. Steep yards ask for patience: careful passes across the grade, trimming where a mower has no business going, edges kept sharp along drives that climb. Nothing is left loose on the pavement either, because on a slope the next rain carries it straight down the hill. Grass is worked for in this country, and a well-kept lawn in these hills is worth stopping to look at.
