About Spruce Up Landscaping & Snow Removal
Crystal City grew up around a glassworks that pulled silica sand straight out of the bluffs along the Mississippi, and the old company streets near the river still carry that history in their narrow lots and brick foundations, laid out for factory families rather than modern driveways. River fog off the Mississippi collects in those low streets on the coldest mornings, thick enough to blur the far bluff on the Illinois side, and it's under that same fog that Spruce Up Landscaping & Snow Removal works its way through town before the plant shift changes. A river town's winter has its own rhythm — barge traffic slows but doesn't stop, and the streets closest to the water hold damp, heavy snow longer than the blocks up on higher ground near the bluff line. The crew clears both kinds: the narrow, older driveways down near the old glassworks, where a truck has to back in slow between two brick foundations, and the wider, newer streets up on the bluff where a plow can run straight through in a single pass. Salt goes down heaviest along the river-facing blocks, where the fog turns any exposed patch of pavement to ice by nine. By the time that fog burns off, most of Crystal City's driveways are down to bare, wet brick and asphalt, one more winter morning in a town built on sand and river weather.
