Route 163 drops off the ridge south of Columbia and the whole Missouri River bottom opens below — corn stubble, levee road, and the little town of Hartsburg sitting out in the middle of it. CT's Lawn and Landcare covers that run in October, mowing the last of the season while the bluffs turn and fog holds in the bottoms until mid-morning. The work is mowing, trimming, edging, bed and border care, shrub and brush cutting, and hauling leaves off before the first hard freeze. Landcare means the ground between the yard and the timber gets attention too: fence lines cut back, corners reclaimed, mulch renewed. It is fall work at the far edge of town, finished while the light lasts.
