C&C Lawns

About C&C Lawns

Chaffee sits on some of the flattest ground in this part of Missouri, laid out along a rail line with section roads running straight for miles in every direction, ditches on either side that fill first with meltwater and then with ice. C&C Lawns works those long, straight driveways and the roadside aprons where a ditch can trap a tire if the edge isn't cleared clean. Flat land plows differently than hill country — no grade to fight, but the wind has a clear run at every open field, and drifts pile up fast against anything standing still: a fence line, a grain bin, a parked truck. The crew treats every driveway edge with the same care, since out here the difference between a clean edge and a buried one is the difference between pulling out easily and getting stuck in the ditch. By the time the afternoon freight comes through on the tracks that gave the town its start, the driveways along its straight roads are scraped bare.
