The Meramec valley announces spring in order: redbud first, a purple haze through the timber, then dogwood white about a week behind. That is the signal to open the beds — pull back the winter, cut a fresh edge, and lay mulch dark enough to make everything planted in it look intentional. From there the season settles into mowing and trimming, walks edged, drives cleared of clippings, shrubs shaped so the front of the house has some geometry to it. Come autumn the leaves come off the same trees that started it all, and they get cleared before they mat down over the turf. It is a good stretch of country to keep green in, and the work shows from the curb.
