The ice lets go of Foot Lake sometime in April, and from that first open water to the night it seals again, Annual Outdoors keeps working. Summer here is mowing weather — long light, thick prairie air, lawns that grow almost audibly after a June rain. Then the wind swings northwest, the fields west of town go white, and the same hands that edged your walk in July are plowing your driveway before the coffee is on. Willmar lives by the whole calendar, not half of it, and so does this crew. Lawn care in the green months, snow removal in the white ones, one town the entire way around.
