About Stillwater Organic

April in Stillwater begins underfoot, when the last ice lets go of Brown's Creek and the ground along the old rail trail turns soft and dark and ready. That is the moment Stillwater Organic works for — the short window when a lawn decides what kind of summer it will have. The crew tends turf the slow way, reading soil and shade on lots that tilt toward the St. Croix, coaxing thick green out of yards that spend half the year under snow. There is a particular satisfaction in a first mow of the season done right, the sweet smell of cut grass drifting over a town built on a riverbank. By June, the proof is in the barefoot test.
