Down in the far southwest corner, where Rock County's prairie runs out toward the old quartzite ridges, Steen is a handful of streets under a great deal of sky. Rock and Mow Lawncare and Fence keeps the yards here through summers that come on hot and dry and stay that way into September. Mowing at the right height is half of holding a lawn together out here, and trimming and edging finish what the deck cannot reach. Spring and fall cleanups take care of the rest, opening the season and putting it to bed. Evening light on the prairie goes on forever, and the last stripe of the day gets the best of it.
