On the North Shore, weather arrives off Lake Superior with no warning and no manners — fog one hour, a foot of lake snow the next, Highway 61 gone gray north of Beaver Bay. Greene Services answers that with a plow and an early alarm, opening driveways and lots in Silver Bay while the town is still dark and the lake is still roaring somewhere below the ridge. The snow up here comes wet, then dry, then wet again, and it takes a feel for the blade to leave a surface people can actually walk on. Banks get pushed back far enough that the next storm has somewhere to go — a small thing in November, the whole difference by March. The clearing is done before the coffee goes cold.
