About In The Rough Stonework and Landscaping

Shafer sits above the St. Croix where the river cut down to basalt, and the ground here gives up stone the way other places give up weeds. In The Rough Stonework and Landscaping works with that — mowing and maintaining yards through the growing season, keeping beds and borders defined, carrying off what the season leaves behind. Summer is orchard rows and sculpture standing in an open field down the road; the light holds late and the grass keeps asking for another pass. Edging a bed against a stone border is slow work, and it holds its line. Shafer, Taylors Falls, Center City and Lindstrom are within reach.
