Snow Busters

About Snow Busters

A January night on the East Side has its own sound: wind moving over Lake Phalen, the hum of streetlights along Payne Avenue, and somewhere below it all a plow blade finding pavement. Snow Busters works Saint Paul in those hours, opening driveways and sidewalks while the city sleeps under its newest few inches. There is a real satisfaction in the work — a clean cut down to blacktop, a walk widened past the drift line, a corner squared so the mail carrier never breaks stride. By the time school buses climb Arcade Street, the snow is already stacked neatly at the curb. This is a town that throws a carnival in honor of winter; somebody still has to keep the way clear, and that is the job.
