The first real snow in Rochester usually comes in November, catching the oaks above Quarry Hill still holding their last rust-brown leaves. Stahler Brothers meets that snow head-on, working driveways and walks on the city's north side while the flakes are still falling. Two sets of hands and one shared standard: the drive scraped to the surface, the banks pushed square, the path to the door wide enough for groceries and grandparents alike. Rochester winters are long enough that the work becomes a kind of companionship with the season. When the last pile finally melts in March, the pavement underneath tells the story of a winter handled well.
