Blade of Grass

About Blade of Grass

Rochester grew up in a bend of the Zumbro, and the town still keeps its river — cottonwoods along the water, limestone shouldering up at Quarry Hill, geese loafing at Silver Lake in weather that should have moved them along. Blade of Grass mows in that steady southeastern light, block by block through the neighborhoods that climb up out of the river valley. Mowing, string trimming, edging along the walks, and the autumn work of lifting leaves before they mat down — it adds up to a lawn that looks composed from the sidewalk. The crisp line where turf meets concrete is the part worth slowing down for. Rochester yards, and those in Byron, Stewartville and Chatfield, hold that line all season.
