Double D Gravel Inc spends those weeks clearing what the wind keeps rebuilding: driveways, gravel yards, wide farm approaches pushed back so there is somewhere to put the next storm. Plowing, blading, stacking and hauling snow, with sand where a slope has glazed over. Out here an approach that was open at supper can be closed by dawn, and the job is simply to open it again. A cleared yard at first light is a plain and useful thing.
