Northern township wraps the head of Lake Bemidji, where the pine comes near enough to the water that most yards are really clearings with grass in them. Corrie's Lawn and Home Care tends those clearings — cutting, trimming and edging, and hauling off what a long winter left behind. Summer runs short and generous this far north; the grass grows hard through July, then a cold snap arrives early and the birch turn all at once. Working here means reading that calendar closely and showing up while the window is still open. A yard that stays trim through a northern August and right on through the last cut of the year is worth the trouble it takes.
