About Clay county rural snow removal

Out past Moorhead's last streetlight, the section roads run straight to the horizon and the wind owns everything between the shelterbelts. Clay county rural snow removal works that open country — the long farm lanes near Kragnes and Georgetown, the yard sites where drifts pack in around machine sheds hard as poured concrete. Town plows never come down these driveways; somebody has to, and it is them. They push the lane wide enough for the propane truck and the school bus, then move on to the next place down the township road. It is lonely-looking work from the highway, and deeply necessary up close.
