On cold mornings the Mississippi breathes fog over Monticello, and the river stays open and steaming right through the deepest freeze. E&M Outdoor Services runs its year alongside that water — snow plowed from driveways and walks while the fog still hangs in the streetlights, lawns mowed all summer as the current slides by a few blocks away. A river town gets both kinds of weather honestly: humid green Julys, iron-hard Januarys, and a fast shoulder season on either end. The crew works all of it, from the first spring cleanup to the last push of a March storm. Living beside a river teaches patience and timing, and both are all over this work.
