About Glander Excavating

January sends the wind straight down Lake Pepin and into Lake City, and the snow it carries never lies flat; it builds across a driveway in long hard ridges by morning. Glander Excavating goes out into that, plowing drives and lots, opening walkways, and treating the ice that sets up where wind-packed snow gets stepped on. The measure of the night is simple and unforgiving: is the drive open before the first car needs it. Along Highway 61 and up the bluff streets, being early is the entire craft. There is something worth taking pride in about a cleared apron at daybreak with the lake still smoking behind it.
