Some weeks in July the grass grows faster than anyone can quite believe, and all of Douglas County smells like nothing but cut lawn from morning until the dew returns. That week is what this work is built for. We mow, trim and edge — that is the list — around the lakeshore places and the town lots south of Alexandria, keeping heights up through a dry spell so the roots stay covered. Two passes and a blown-clean sidewalk turn a shaggy yard into a squared-off one in under an hour. The last cut in October goes low, the leaves come off, and the lawn is left flat and ready for snow to lie on.
