Benson Gravel

About Benson Gravel

Kerkhoven runs a few streets north and south of Highway 12, with the elevator, the rail line, and then Swift County prairie in every direction. Out here the snow rarely falls straight down; it comes sideways off the fields and rebuilds itself across an approach an hour after it has been cleared. Benson Gravel plows those drives and yards through the winter, heading back out whenever the wind says to. The best part of a plow night is the last one — headlights swinging across a driveway that's finally open all the way to the road. Then the quiet comes back and the sky goes enormous and cold.
