Autumn arrives early on the west side of Mille Lacs, tamarack turning gold in the low ground while the traffic on Highway 169 thins out for the year. Vivant’s Service’s works both sides of that turn — mowing, trimming and lawn care through the green months, then plowing and shoveling once Kathio township settles into a lake-country winter. Snow near this much open water can come sideways and stay a while, so drives get opened early and revisited as the wind keeps deciding things. In summer the measure is a level cut and a clean line along the walk. In January it is a driveway you can back out of without thinking about it, which is honestly the very same job.
