Hoyt Lakes sits up on the height of land where the water starts choosing between Superior and the north, with Colby Lake at the edge of town and spruce and birch closing in behind the last street. Tree Time mows the curving blocks and wide yards there, trims where the lawn runs up against the timber, and edges the walks and drives back to their real width. The season is short and generous: green in late May, hard growth through the long June evenings, then a slow fade once the nights turn. After that the birch go yellow all at once and the leaf work begins, cleared off before the first snow flattens everything. A tidy lawn set against that wall of dark woods is a good-looking thing, and it's reason enough to do the work right.
