Chet Cuts

About Chet Cuts

In June, this far north, the light in Hibbing lingers toward ten at night, and you can hear a mower running somewhere right up to dusk. Often it's Chet Cuts, finishing one more yard while the sky stays pale over the jack pines. The name says it plainly: cuts — clean ones, week after week, across the small lots and long backyards of the Iron Range. Grass grows fast in all that daylight, and keeping it neat is honest, repeatable work. A tight lawn under a late northern sunset is about as good as summer gets up here.
