About ATK

Hermantown sits on the high ground behind Duluth, and when the wind swings northeast the lake sends its snow uphill — bands of it, thick and quiet, dropping more here than down along the water. ATK plows into those nights, clearing driveways, private roads and commercial lots on the hill, cutting back the ridge the county plow leaves across the end of a drive, and opening steps and entries. Ice control goes down wherever a grade steepens, which up here is nearly everywhere. A route can run dark to dark when the lake gets going, and it runs again the next day if the band sets up in the same place. Black open pavement by the time the neighborhood needs it — that is the entire point.
