Tri County Services

About Tri County Services

Hastings is a river town twice over — the Mississippi along the north edge and the Vermillion dropping over its falls in the middle of things — and the lawns follow the land down toward both. Tri County Services mows those slopes and terraces, trims the strips along old brick walks and stone retaining walls, and edges where boulevard grass meets the curb downtown. Yards in the old neighborhoods are small and full of detail, and detail is where the time goes: around porch steps, under the lilacs, along a fence built before anybody was thinking about a mower. In autumn the hardwoods above the river give up an astonishing quantity of leaves, and they get gathered and carried off. What stays with you is the last pass at dusk, the grass even underfoot and the water going gold past the dam.
