Mr Dirt

About Mr Dirt

Highway 12 runs straight through Grove City with the rail line alongside it, and on a storm night the plows and the freight trains share the dark. Mr Dirt, a name that belongs to the ground, turns to snow removal once a Meeker County winter takes hold, clearing driveways, parking lots and sidewalks while Grove City sleeps. Wind across that open highway country carves drifts over every driveway mouth, and the work is to break through them and carry the snow well away from the lane. By the time the first pickups pull onto 12 in the morning, lanes are open and walks are scraped down to concrete. It is cold, unglamorous work, done in the dark so everyone else can start the day without a shovel.
