Neu's Turf and Snow

About Neu's Turf and Snow

Southwest of Glencoe the land goes flat and orderly, a checkerboard of section roads with a farmstead at half the corners, and weather crosses it with nothing in the way. Neu's Turf and Snow works that country and the town blocks both — mowing, trimming and edging while the corn is coming up, then plowing drives, shoveling entries and laying down salt and sand once the fields go white. Yard cleanups in April clear off what winter left; leaf work in October clears off what summer did. The best hour is early, before the wind finds its footing, when a finished lawn or a finished driveway is the only mark on the day. It stays that way until somebody drives on it, which is the point.
