Ice Dam Guys

About Ice Dam Guys

Deep in a Forest Lake January, after a thaw refreezes, winter shows its teeth: ridges of ice at the eaves, icicles the length of a ski, driveways glazed slick by morning. Ice Dam Guys work that hard end of the season — clearing snow before it can compact, cutting ice loose before it can grow, keeping rooflines, walks, and drives from becoming the winter's problem. On mornings when the thermometer sits well below zero and the lake booms as it freezes deeper, the breath of the work rises white against a blue sky. The reward is simple and visible: clean lines, open walks, water going where water should. They cover Forest Lake and its neighbors, Wyoming and Stacy among them.
