DJ's Dock Service

About DJ's Dock Service

In lakes country the year has a hinge: the week the docks come out of the water and the first skim of ice creeps across Pebble Lake. DJ's Dock Service lives on that hinge, and when the open-water season closes, the plowing season begins. Through the long freeze they keep driveways and approaches clear from town out to the lake roads, where the wind stacks snow against every windbreak. The work is early, cold, and exact — a clean cut down to gravel or blacktop, done before the school buses run. When the ice finally rots in spring they will be back at the shoreline; until then, the snow belongs to them.
