Kolb Steel Works

About Kolb Steel Works

Dundas keeps its limestone mill walls down by the Cannon River, roofless now, the water running shallow over stone beside them all summer. Kolb Steel Works cuts the grass in this town — mowing, trimming close to walls and posts, edging the walks, clearing the yard out when spring and fall come around. Riverside lots grow hard and green here, and the low ground stays soft well into June. On a July evening with the river audible from the street, a just-cut lawn smells like the whole town at once. Then the mower goes up on the trailer and the quiet comes back down.
