The old railbed out of Cannon Falls is a bike trail now, running the valley toward Welch and Red Wing between limestone walls that hold the cold late into spring. Kittock Landscape Service works both ends of that valley year, mowing, trimming and edging while the trail is green overhead, then plowing and shoveling once the bluff shadows keep frost all day. Cleanups come twice, spring and fall, and the leaves that pile against the sides of a valley town go out by the truckload. Winter means driveways opened, entries cleared to bare footing, and salt or sand on the slopes everyone in Cannon Falls knows to take slowly. Two halves of a year, one property, kept in hand.
