DeCook Excavating

About DeCook Excavating

West of Rochester, Byron sits in open, rolling farm country, and when the wind gets going across those fields it can rebuild a drift nearly as fast as anyone clears it. DeCook Excavating, an outfit used to moving earth, turns to a lighter and colder material: snow. The job is snow removal in Byron, pushing back what each storm stacks across driveways and leaving straight, square lines behind. There is a solid kind of pride in clearing that holds up to the next gust, with the banks set well back so the wind finds nothing easy to fill. When the sky clears hard and blue over Highway 14, the opened ground looks as if it means to stay that way.
