The name comes from the water, and in the Brainerd lakes area the water is never far — but from December to March it lies locked beneath the ice, and JT's Underwater Landscaping spends those months on top of the freeze rather than beneath it. Winter here is the business: snow removal across town and along the lake roads, driveways plowed and walks cleared while the lakes stretch white and silent as fields. It is a fitting trade for a place where even the water works seasonally. The crew runs storm to storm, opening what the sky closes, until the ice groans, rots, and finally lets the lakes breathe again. Then the name makes sense once more, and the shovels get a rest.
